Custom processing of nanoMAG products

The nanoMAG TTMP process refines grain size to increase strength and ductility to levels superior to commercial cast and wrought Mg alloys.  The usual coarse and brittle intermetallics of commercial Mg alloys are subdivided and dispersed in nanometer arrays to further benefit strength, ductility and formability.  Custom processing of nanoMAG sheet can tune properties to the specific needs of the customer.  Yield strengths can exceed 300 MPa, with 10% elongation.  With the continued advancement of technology and process, nanoMAG is uniquely poised to open up product design opportunities previously unavailable due to material constraints.

Agile manufacture of specialty alloy products (the "paint store" concept)

With our mini-mill production concept we are able to reduce costs and make possible short runs of specialty alloys.  Specialty alloys can be Thixoblended in the Thixomolding® step of the nanoMAG TTMP porcess.  In the same day, several specialty alloys could be molded with variations of such alloying elements as Al, Zn, Sr, Y and rare earths in the Mg base.  Standard alloys such as AM50, AM60, AM61 and AZ91 can be molded as well as newer AJ, MRI and AM-lite varieties.  These unique characteristics make nanoMAG an advantageous choice for a variety of product applications.

nanoMAG composites

The high strength/density ratio of nanoMAG sheet can be enhanced by inclusion in laminated nanoMAG Mg/epoxy/fiber composites.  Strength can be doubled again to levels of 900 MPa, along with increase of stiffness from 45 (Modulus of Elasticity) to 90 GPa.
