Two concerns often raised relative to application of Mg alloys are corrosion and flammability.

On corrosion, alloy purity, coatings and design of assemblies are instrumental in controlling corrosion of Mg alloys - to the degree that performance can equal aluminum alloys on low carbon steels.

As to flammability, tests at Concurrent Technologies Corporation in 2001 showed that Mg alloy plate could withstand propane and oxyacetylene torches at temperatures up to about 400°C, without ignition.  (please see Flammability Test attachment on this page)
